RIA Initiative team attends a 3-day Introductory National Led Training on “Supporting Families in Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism”

Early this week Our Program Officer Samuel Adesida (PMD Pro) and Team Lead Stephen Olushola Oladepo , attended a 3-day Introductory National Led Training on “Supporting Families in Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism” organized by, Neem Foundation supported by Hedayah with funding from the European Union.

This 3-day introductory learning journey covered topics such as:

  1. Understanding the radicalization process and the Practitioner’s Role in Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism.
  2. Overview of Extremism and Violent Extremism in Nigeria.
  3. Understanding the Role of Families in Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism.
  4. Challenges of Engaging with Families in Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism and many more.

The sessions provided participants with an explanation of the radicalization process at the individual level and explored potential factors contributing to radicalization, leading to extremism and violent extremism in the context of Nigeria. In addition, the session also explored the crucial role played by community-based organizations’ practitioners in supporting prevention, rehabilitation,and reintegration efforts.

It was an explosive learning curve for our team member who participated in the workshop, and we are grateful to Neem institute, Neem Foundation , Hedayah for the opportunity to be part of this first phase and are looking forward to the next phase (the advance level).
